Implants, bone grafting and implant crowns on Highland Rd W
Call us at (519) 885-1598

A missing tooth affects more than your smile. It can make chewing harder, and over time the teeth beside the gap can drift and the bone underneath can shrink. At Highland Kitchener Dentist on Highland Rd W, we place dental implants, do bone grafting when it’s needed, and restore implants with crowns. Call 519-885-1598 to book a consultation.
What a dental implant is
An implant is a small post placed in the jawbone where the root of the missing tooth used to be. Once it has bonded with the bone, it holds a crown that looks and works like a natural tooth. Implants don’t rely on the teeth beside them for support, so those teeth don’t need to be filed down the way they would for a fixed bridge.
Who implants suit
- Adults missing one or more teeth
- People who want a fixed option rather than a removable denture
- Patients with healthy gums, or gum disease that has been treated
- Patients with enough bone to hold the implant, or who can have a bone graft first
We’ll check your teeth, gums and bone with an exam and X-rays and tell you honestly whether an implant is the right fit.
Bone grafting
If a tooth has been missing for a while, the bone in that spot may have thinned. A bone graft rebuilds the area so there is enough support for an implant. Sometimes it’s done when a tooth is removed, and sometimes a few months before the implant goes in.
The implant process
- Consultation. We examine the area, take X-rays and go over your options and costs.
- Placement. The implant is placed with the area frozen.
- Healing. The bone bonds with the implant over the following months.
- Restoration. We attach a custom crown matched to your other teeth.
Caring for an implant
Brush and floss around an implant the same way you would a natural tooth, and keep up with your regular checkups and cleanings. Healthy gums are what keep an implant stable for the long term.
Other ways to replace a tooth
An implant isn’t the only option. Depending on your situation, a fixed bridge or a denture or partial denture may suit you better, and we’ll go over the pros and cons of each.
Insurance, payment and CDCP
We bill most plans directly, including the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and can send an estimate to your insurer before treatment. Read our CDCP page for details. For costs your plan doesn’t cover, we accept cash, debit and credit cards, and payment plans are available.
