Our ultimate aim is to help you achieve and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile for life. Essential to this goal is your own dental hygiene routine at home. A balanced diet, fewer snacks, and the correct use of dental care tools are critical in managing the plaque and bacteria that lead to oral diseases.

Tooth brushing: It’s important to brush your teeth at least twice daily, especially before bedtime, using an ADA-approved soft bristle toothbrush and toothpaste. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gums and gently brush with a small, circular motion, making sure the bristles touch the gums. Brush all surfaces—outer, inner, and biting—of each tooth. To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, use the tip of the brush. Also, brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath. Electric toothbrushes, which are simple to use and effective at removing plaque, are recommended.

Flossing: Daily flossing is crucial for cleaning between the teeth and below the gumline. It helps prevent plaque buildup, protecting the gums, teeth, and bones. Use 12–16 inches of dental floss, winding it around your middle fingers and leaving about 2 inches between. Guide the floss between your teeth with your thumbs and forefingers, using a sawing motion. Curve the floss into a “C” shape around each tooth and under the gumline, and gently slide it up and down against each tooth. Floss holders may be helpful if you find regular flossing challenging.

Rinsing: Always rinse your mouth with water after brushing and after meals if brushing isn’t possible. If you use an over-the-counter rinse, consult with your dentist or dental hygienist to ensure it’s suitable for you.

Other Dental Aids: Your dentist or dental hygienist might also recommend interdental brushes, rubber tip stimulators, tongue cleaners, irrigation devices, fluoride treatments, medicated rinses, and other tools to support your dental home care regimen.
